When we had some out of town friends visit us last November, I made some sleepover kid cupcakes in their honor. This is another one from the same cupcake book. They came out cute, but were too sweet for me to enjoy with all the candy on top. Microwaving candy to soften it is definitely an art form though.

A Cupcake Break
I know that these aren't cupcakes but really I wanted this to be about my edible creations, not just cupcakes, I just couldn't find an available blog name that I liked. When my husband youngest sister and niece came over to visit during their christmas break we made gingerbread houses. We all had a lot of fun and have big plans for next years houses. We are even going to try making "stained glass" windows for them!
Next!
Christmas itself was much to busy to make cupcakes, but the day after I went to my mom's for a little post holiday get together and brought some penguins and icebergs with me. This design was from the same cupcake book, but the icebergs (really snowy mounds) were my own. The technique of dipping cupcakes into melted frosting was new to me, a lot of fun, but wastes a lot of frosting.
Then began the Obession...
Once I got a taste of what I could do to a cupcake I had to try it again. The next holiday was Thanksgiving so I took advantage of it to try something new. I brought Tom the Turkeys with me to my mom's for Thanksgiving Dinner. I got the design from "Hello, Cupcake" and tweaked it a little. Tom was made with (beyond the cake and frosting) candy corns, ginger thin cookies, fruit by the foot and turtle crunch sprinkles. The combination of flavors really worked with this one (minus the fruit by the foot). Without further ado, here is Tom.
