Maclan's Second Birthday

I know that these aren't pictures of cupcakes but it's still cake! This was messy but fun to make.

Maclan's First Birthday

Here are some more forgotten photos. These are from Maclan's first birthday.

Christmas is Coming!

As I start to think about this year's Christmas cupcakes, I realized that I never posted this from last year!

A "Classy" Birthday

My brother's girlfriend turned 21 a few weeks ago and we had for party at our house. She wanted to "class it up" so we came up with the idea of Doing Van Gogh's Starry Night from one of my cupcake books. We decorated the house with stars and we worked on these together. This was my first time using cupcakes as a canvas. It was a lot of fun. I will definitely do it again. The next round of cupcakes will be for my son's first birthday in a couple of weeks.

THE REAL STARRY NIGHT
My sister-in-law had her engagement party last month. Her mom asked me to make some cupcakes. Her daughter came up with the idea of bunnies and bears based on their nicknames. I was a bit nervous at first that I wouldn't be able to pull it off but in the end I was very happy with the bears and the bunnies were okay. I made cupcakes with paw print and grass with flowers to compliment them. I based the structure of the bears on the polar bear design from "What's New, Cupcake" and tweaked the ingredients. The bunnies were my own design.

The following is what I used to make the bears:

Body: vanilla, chocolate or carrot cake cupcake
Head: plain munchkin dipped in dark chocolate frosting
Fur: ground up oreo cookie
Paws: chocolate covered brownie bites
Muzzle: chocolate covered brownie bite dipped in dark chocolate frosting and coated with turtle crunch
Ears: chocolate cheerios
Nose: mini M&M

Birthdays

I made monkeys and butterflies for a dual birthday party for my husband's sister and niece. I was pretty happy with the way that these came out. Even though I used melting chocolates to make my bug cupcakes for last Halloween, this felt like my first time really trying to work with them. I wasn't able to master dragging the toothpick through the two colors, but I am still happy with how they turned out. I will try the technique again at some point. Both of these designs were from the book "Hello, Cupcake".
